The First Civil War Artifact !!!
Wall after a full year of anticipation, I finally found the first Civil War Artifact. I was dinging under the kitchen extension on the house getting the jacks set up to level the floor. I had already removed (by hand) about 4 cubic yards of dirt when I looked up and saw this bullet sticking out of the dirt right where I had Just whacked down with a mattock digging tool.

As a knee-jerk reaction I snatched up the bullet to look at it. Then I suddenly realized I am trying my best to document any historical finds so I placed the bullet very carefully back into its' 160 year resting place and took these two pictures. I had this overwhelming urge sift all the dirt I had dug up and moved to the back area near the chicken coop.
This find does add a tiny piece to the time line puzzle. This proves the kitchen addition to the house was not in place during the Civil War. The entire house was probably built after the Civil War but there has been no definitive proof of the exact date the structure was built. Many houses this old actually incorporated an original structure that could have been there years before.
This house has three clear buildings. The ages of each are not known. All we know know is the the kitchen addition is postwar. Let us see if I find artifacts under the main house and the addition that contains the Master Bedroom and my lower office.
