In 1899 J. Lee DuVal Purchased the property from B.J. DuVal at auction for the price of $1635.00 on April 27th 1899. Below is our best transcription of that deed. A few areas we could not decipher. The poor court house microfiche copies will make you go blind. Scroll down and see if you can figure it out from the original.

Deed Book 97, Page 382.

This Dead made this 27th day of April 1899, between Miles P. DuVal trustee party of the first part and J. Lee DuVal party of the second part: Whereas B. J. DuVal and Mattie T. DuVal his wife by deed leasing date on the 14th day of February, 1898, and seconded in Clerks office of Chesterfield County in D.B 75 page 371 did convey to the said Miles P. Duval in trust to recuse the payment of certain sum of money therein Chesterfield, the following real estate to wit; all that certain piece or parcel of land lying and being in Dale District, Chesterfield County at Centralia on the Richmond and Petersburg Rail Road, and continuing twenty and 83/100 (20 & 83/100) acres with all the buildings and affrontuarea thereto belonging and bounded on the east by the Richmond and Petersburg Rail Road, on the west by said Duval and Samuel Parson, on the north by Pratti, and on the south by the road leading to Chesterfield Courthouse, and being the same land that was conveyed to the said Duval by James Pendalton Rogen by deed of second in Chesterfield County Court Clerk office in D.B volume 58 page 556 for further reference see said deed. By which deed of trust the said trustee was empowered on the failing of the said B.J DuVall and Mattie T Duvall, his wife, to pay the sum of money therein mentioned, or any part therein whereas the same shall become payable. To sell the above described property for the purpose of the said trust.

And whereas default having been made in the payment of the said sum of money; the Trustee in execution of the trust aforesaid being thereto required by Thomas S. ???????? ????? did on the 27th day of April, 1899. After giving 5 days notice in the Dispatch, a newspaper published in the city of Richmond, VA of the time, place and term of sale expose to sale at public auction to the highest bidder the property described above. At which sale the said J. Lee Duval, having made the highest bid therefore became the purchaser of the said property at the price of sixteen hundred and thirty five ($1635) Dollars and having complied with the terms of sale has requested that the same be now conveyed to him, the said J. Lee Duval.

This deed therefore witnesseth; that the said Miles P. DuVal Trustee in the performance of his duty as trustee, and in consideration of the sum of sixteen hundred and thirty five (1635) Dollars doth grant with special warranty unto the said J. Lee DuVal the property hereinfore referred to and described:

In Chesterfield County Circuit Clerk's office the 15th day of May, 1899 this deed was presented and with the certificate awarded admitted to record at 11 o'clock et. All. With $2 in T.R stamps cancelled.
