The Pool

I had been promising my wife a pool since she was pregnant with my twin boys. This is the summer of 2002 and they're eight now. I decided to put the pool down by the shipping container. The container will eventually covered in rough cut wood with roof trusses. In theory it should look like a barn with no hint of it's steel inner self. Connected to this I would put the deck.

In theory the roof will overhang ten feet on ether side of the container. On the left side I will make an area to park the tractors. On the right side I envision a cabana type overhang should be a nice shady area for a wet bar and changing area.

One of the wacky things I did for the pool was roll out about 160 feet of conveyer belt material on the ground before I put down the 3 inches of sand. My worry was that some of the millions of tree roots in the ground would work their way up through the pool liner. The conveyer material is like four layers of alternating nylon canvas and truck tire rubber. It is unbelievably tough.

Here is the first section of the deck almost complete. This was the hardest. Wrapping square wood around a round pool close enough so little feet won't get caught was a bitch! I wanted the pool raised enough to use the sides as a seat and also so the littlest of the children could neal at the pools edge and play safely without loosing their balance and falling in.

This picture shows the privacy fence going up. The pool sides that are showing will eventually be covered with TREX© engineered plastic lumber.

Here is a good shot of the pool from the roof. You can sort of see how the master plan will come together. Imagine a roof over the shipping container and rough-cut vertical boards around the sides. The entire structure should look like a pool at all. I'm hoping it will look like a 40 foot barn with a stockade next to it. Hopefully this will blend into the rustic property and look natural.
