The Upstairs Heatpump
Well, where do I start?

After an electric bill that went from $350 in October, $500 in November and $625 in December, it was time to address the heat situation. I have been waging a 6 month battle with Columbia gas about their breach of contract with me. Meanwhile I was taking it in the shorts with the dinosaur heat pumps currently heating the house. The emergency heat light on the thermostat would come on at dusk and stay on all night. I also noticed as the weeks went on, the time the compressor motor would rest was getting shorter and shorter.

Out of desperation, I started to research heating costs for a home of this size. I looked at Gas, Oil, Electric, Boilers, and Solar. The numbers would make your head swim. I will post all the charts I compiled on this site some time in the near future.

I found an excellent one man contractor, Jim Carroll, who gave me what I thought was a good deal for a fair price. I explained the "bigger picture" with this money pit and the recent heat bills, and he helped me with some heat cost data. He installs all types of furnaces and AC units so he didn't care what I purchased.
